New ‘Young Love’ Series by Matthew Cherry to Hit Max Screens in September

Matthew Cherry’s new series, Young Love, is headed to MAX on Sept. 21. The animated show is based on the characters introduced in the Oscar winning short film, Hair Love.

“Filled with comedy and heart, the all-new Max Original animated series Young Love is an honest look into the world of the Young family–including millennial parents Stephen and Angela, their daughter Zuri and her pet cat Rocky–as they juggle their careers, marriage, parenthood, social issues and multi-generational dynamics, all while striving to make a better life for themselves.”

The series stars the voices of Kid Cudi (aka Scott Mescudi), Issa Rae, Brooke Monroe Conaway, Loretta Devine, Harry Lennix and Tamar Braxton. Cherry serves as creator and executive producer. Blue Key Entertainment’s Monica Young also executive produces with Carl Jones, Karen Toliver, and Lion Forge Animation’s Carl Reed and David Steward II. The series is produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation.

Cherry said, “The Black family dynamic isn’t frequently depicted in mainstream animated projects. I trust this film can be a catalyst for change in that regard.”

After its debut, the 12-episode season will unveil four episodes every week until it concludes on Thursday, October 5th. Take a sneak peek at the series below.
